I became interested in ocean gyres after reading “Flotsametrics and the Floating world” by Ebbesmeyer and Scigliano, which was the inspiration for this cable sock pattern. I was fascinated to learn there are 11 known Ocean Gyres across the world’s oceans and each has a defined time it takes something to cycle through the circuit. The North Pacific Gyre, which feeds into the Bering Sea has a cycle of about three years, hence the sets of 3 repeats of the pattern on the sock. Like water, which keeps moving, the pattern flows onto the cuff and off the toes and heel. Each size is a little unique.
