Mighty Oaks from little acorns grow…
An old English proverb reminding us even the biggest of achievements have their beginnings in the tiniest spark of idea.
I am so lucky to live in a beautiful forest full of majestic oak trees - some of them grow up to 50m tall! It was while crunching through a carpet of fallen acorns on a crisp autumn morning that the tiny seed of inspiration for this shawl (and the matching ACORN HAT) with it’s textured moss stitch, rippling garter (like the wavy edges of oak leaves) and sea of acorn lace, was first conceived…

- carrying yarn up the side of work when knitting stripes (tips given)

Pattern Sample knit with Gathered Sheep Yarns BFL/Gotland DK (75/25 blend British BFL/Gotland; 230m/251yds per 100g skein)
2 skeins Earth (MC)
1 skein Wild Sage (CC)
Substituting Yarn
Yarn used in sample is beautifully soft and warm, worsted spun from two fibres know for their lustre!
Sample used nearly 2 full skeins (460m/503yds) of MC and approx 35g (85m/93yds) of CC

5mm circular needle (or size needed to obtain gauge)
