Inspired by memories of childhood hikes in the forests and on the fjords in Norway (and the hand-knit socks my relatives wore on those hikes), these socks utilize traditional Norwegian patterns and colors. Although the patterning is complex, the gusset panels on the calves and the herringbone pattern down the back of the leg allow for achieving a customized fit without much trouble.

Notes
Variations in fit can be achieved by adjusting needle size up or down. For thinner calves, ribbing may be worked on size 0 dpn; for thicker calves, use size 2.
The calf can also be easily adjusted by adding or subtracting sts in the calf gusset panels.
The main pattern can be knit on size 2 needles for a smaller size.
For the best results, try on the sock several times while knitting, to ensure the desired fit is being achieved, and adjust needle size/stitch count as necessary.

There is a typo in the pattern:

The text should say S2KP2 (not S2K2P).

S2KP2 = slip 2 knit wise, one at a time, k1, pass 2 slipped sts over the k1.
