Norwegian Legwarmers
These legwarmers are knit in the round from the bottom up. The stirrup is made by first binding off half the stitches for a heel opening, then casting on the same number to continue on up the leg. To accommodate the swell of the calf, increases are made adjacent to the vertical CC stripes in the rounds between motifs – these can be customized in quantity and placement to fit a variety of leg shapes. The Norwegian motif came from a pair of socks found in a rag pile at a paper mill in Norway, photographed by Annemor Sundbo.
The pattern is free to members of The Knitting Guild Association. For membership information, go to www.tkga.org.
