From Fishermen’s Sweaters: Norwegian fishing boats have paid regular visits to the harbour of my home town Stornoway ever since I can remember. For me, they conjure up strong images of bold stylised colour patterns, worked in some shade of blue and cream with an occasional splash of red. These long remembered images were my starting point for Norway, and I wanted this sweater design to match the strength of the memory.

Norway is worked in the circular Fair Isle technique, with steeks at the armholes and neck, which makes it a delightfully easy and quick design to knit. The circular Fair Isle knitting method is well worth becoming acquainted with, as it is the fastest way of knitting colour patterns. Because the entire garment is worked in the round, only knit stitches are used and the right side of the colour pattern is always facing the knitter.

• Underarm, excluding gussets: 48”/120 cm
• Length: 27.25”/68.5 cm
• Sleeve length: 19”/48 cm

Yarn Information:

• Colour A (Navy): 1,125 yards
• Colour B (Cream): 1,000 yards
• Colour C (Red): 250 yards

Additional Materials:

• US 3 (3.25 mm) and US 5 (3.75 mm) circular or double pointed needles
• 4 stitch holders
• Stitch markers

Special Note: All charts are worked in stockinette stitch. When working a tension gauge swatch in chart C pattern, work every row on the right side only, breaking off yarns at the end of every row.
