As a family, one of our favourite things to do during the autumn is to go for a walk and pick blackberries (or brambles as I fondly remember my grandparents calling them). I love that this stitch pattern creates a fabric that’s just as plump and squishy as the juicy, ripe berries we gather and that the finished sweater is just as cosy and warming as the apple and blackberry crumble we like to make with them!

The body of the sweater is worked first; you will begin by casting on at the bottom and working in the round until the point where you split the front and back pieces at the underarm. Shaping for the neck is worked on the front piece only, then the front and back pieces are joined at the shoulders using a three-needle bind off. You will pick up stitches around the armholes for the sleeves, which are worked in the round, before finishing off the sweater by picking up stitches around the neckline and knitting a folded collar.

Originally designed for issue 177 of Knit Now magazine.
