Size can be adjusted by altering gauge slightly: fewer stitches per inch (large needle) will make a bigger hat; more stitches per inch (thinner needle) will make a smaller hat.

The vertical row of stitches between the crown points will form a straight vertical row of stockinette between the decreases. It helps prevent gaps if the float is trapped at this stitch on each round.

This pattern does have some long floats between pattern elements. I suggest trapping floats every 3 to 4 stitches. If tension on the floats is too tight the fabric of the hat will pucker and lose the stretchiness we
love in knitted hats.
