Nollag Seal (Christmas Shawl) cape
This is the December entry in my Brigid Collection, a collection of designs that celebrate Celtic-inspired knitting. I offer you this Christmas Shawl that starts at the top of the hood (with heavy worsted in a lovely Christmas Red) and continues through to the hem.
This amazing creation is a celebration of Celtic knitting – cables, twisted stitches, seed stitch and combinations of all those coalesce into this classic garment that is as much fun to knit as it is to wear.
Knit completely in one piece with increases strategically placed to then “grow” into more stitch patterns, the project takes approximately 1400 yards of heavy worsted wool. Directions are charted and written out – but due to the nature of each individual stitch pattern, you will need to keep track of what’s happening when. This is not a design for the faint of heart -- but you will enjoy the challenge!
Finished Dimensions:
• hood = 20” circumference; 14” height from top seam to start of neck ribbing
• neck ribbing = 2-1/2 inches high
• cape = 14” from end of neck ribbing to split for arm openings; 10” from beg of split to hem; total length from neck to hem = 24”; hem = 88” circumference with cape buttoned
This design is 15 pages long -- with the last three pages being the charts that go with the stitch patterns. Again, this is not for the faint of heart!
