Nocturnal Bees
For some bees, the setting sun signals the beginning of a working night. For these nocturnal shift-workers, the gathering of pollen and nectar can occur in near-darkness, sometimes even all night long. I created this shawl as a tribute to these important creatures.
Knitted sideways from the left tip, it is an easy and relaxing knit, with the work progressing from garter stitch to a slip-stitch pattern and then a simple chevron lace edging that is worked either from charts or the full written instructions. The edge is finished with a picot bind off; I achieved the scalloped edge through blocking, but you may leave the edge straight for a different look. Note: a row counter is very helpful for this pattern.
Nocturnal Bees is also available in my ebook The HoneywingTrio, which includes two other shawl patterns – Honeywing and Belign.
