I designed Nimuë Capelet for Shirley Paden’s 2024 Knitted Kingdoms Design Quest Competition. A key figure in Celtic and Breton mythology, Nimuë is the name of the Lady of the Lake who presented the sword, Excalibur, to King Arthur. The curved and bulbous lines of the garment’s primary stitch pattern ideally convey drops of water. Glass teardrop and seed beads dangle from the scalloped points in the edging and the center of each “water drop,” reflecting light and further enhancing the design and water concept. The result is a garment appropriate for the Lady of the Lake!
