New Coda Jacket
The Coda has quite a few themes running through it! I am fascinated by numbers, sequences, formulas
and codes. I admire so much the work
of the women at Bletchley Park during WW2, breaking codes; this is my homage to them; a forties
inspired style, with shape and set in sleeves and a high neck with a pattern that is a whole series of
codes.
It is knitted using a stranded colour work method from the North Country, using both RS(Knit) and
WS(Purl) colour work. The Main bodice to underarm of the jacket can be knitted on one needle, and then
divides for the armhole shaping or it can be knitted in 3 pieces, 2 fronts and the back and then seamed. The edges and the collar are integrated into the knit.
There is either a set in sleeve or dropped shoulder option.
The colours of the original are a reflection of the work of the Glasgow Girls; exceptional women artists who embraced many different artisanal forms, embroidery, painting, glass work, etching, print making etc. working from studios in Glasgow from the late (19 to the 1930’s.
