Neko socks
SIZE: M
Foot and leg circumference approx. 20 cm / 8”, length adjustable
Neko means a cat in Japanese and the Neko socks are an ode to all cat lovers. These are also a fashionista’s masterpiece! The socks are made toe up with a German short row heel. You can work the pattern with stranded colourwork technique - just remember to twist the yarns when there are longer floats - or use the invisible stranding.
WHAT YOU NEED
Yarn: Main colour: 60 g of Filcolana Arwetta (80% merino, 20% nylon - 210 m / 230 yds / 50 g), colour beige (977) or off-white (101).
Contrast colour: 25 g of Filcolana Arwetta (80% merino, 20% nylon - 210 m / 230 yds / 50 g), colour black (102) or caramel (363).
Needle: 2.25 mm (US1) and 2.5 mm (US1.5) long circular needle for magic loop and DPNs if you prefer. In that case, magic loop needle 1 corresponds to DPNs I and II and magic loop needle 2 to DPNs III and IV. Place sts evenly on DPNs.
Notions: Tapestry needle.
Gauge: 36 sts x 37 rnds = 10 cm / 4” of colourwork with 2.5 mm (US1.5) needle.
Stranded colourwork: If the yarn floats are over 5 sts, twist the yarns on the WS.
Technique: The socks are worked toe up with German short row heel as colorwork. You can use either stranded or invisible method. When using the invisible method (white socks) the fabric stretches more than when using the stranded color work method (beige socks). Tip: If you’re using the invisible stranding method, use only the smaller needle.
