Ndebele House Hat
Thanks for supporting this project!! $321 went to Doctor’s Without Borders to fight Ebola.
100% of Proceeds to Doctors Without Borders to help in the Ebola Crisis through DEC 31, 2014.
The Ndebele Women of South Africa carry on a long-standing tradition of painting the walls of their homes with large, graphic designs. Long ago they were painted with natural materials: soot & limestone, black & white. Today the houses are painted in bright colors using commercial paint and thick, dark outlines. The geometric designs tell the passersby what is happening in their family; marriages, births etc… they also say “we are Ndebele.” The designs are amazing and are mostly straight lines, squares & triangles - and always designed, drawn (freehand) and painted by women. Amazing skills.
This hat honors the Ndebele house painting tradition. Color choices are yours, traditional black and white or modern with bright red, sky blue, gold, green, white and black and a surprise of pink. Two sizes, Infant/Small Child & Large Child/Adult. Knit in worsted yarn, it is a very quick knit. Look too for the companion hat, the WonderBoom Hat, with small earflaps, double braided ties and a similar geometric design. Through Dec 31 of 2014, all profits will go to help in the EBOLA Crisis.
