By combining flat, knitted stitches with purls you can create all manner of stitch patterns, simple all over patterns or larger motifs that might spread across an entire sweater. But even the simplest combinations, as in Naseby, can make striking textures when worked in a plump yarn like Corriedale. This little hat is worked from the crown down, so you can adjust its size by adding or subtracting stitches in the first section. Just be sure to end up with a multiple of four to accommodate the body pattern.
