Brioche stitch creates a beautiful, lush, and squishy fabric. This cowl is a great beginner brioche project to get you used to the brioche stitch. When I learned brioche I was taught it in the round, using two colors, and I find it much easier to start here than with a flat scarf.

Since the earliest brioche patterns were written in the mid-1800s and become popular in the Netherlands, modern day instructions are typically written for continental knitters. As such, standard brioche pattern language can be a little confusing for English-style knitters. So, to help our fellow “throwers”, we provided a break down of instructions for English knitters on page 3.
