Naira Sweater
This design is constructed using Granny Squares, creating a repetitive pattern that pays homage to the designs of Andean cultures.
Granny squares are joined to create the
upper body and sleeves, then stitches are
picked up and crocheted in the round to
complete the lower body and the sleeve
cuffs. While the overall garment width is
largely fixed by the number of squares, it
is possible to adjust the body circumference
by lengthening or shortening the
sleeve seams accordingly. The lower
body length is easily adjustable, and the
sleeves can be lengthened by adding
additional rounds before the ribbing.
Remember that any adjustments to the
pattern will affect the required yardage.
Each granny square is worked in turned
rounds and uses all 6 colors. All yarns are
held double throughout. When switching
colors, complete the final stitch of the
first color by drawing the new color
through to make the final loop. See the
Granny Square video tutorial for a
demonstration of this technique.
Hide yarn ends as you go to minimize
weaving in at the end.
