the first weeks of this year were rough (lost a friend … she died of a fatal accident in the mountains) and I needed a break from everything … when I picked up my needles again, I was able to find some peace in working with this unspun yarn

… Mutsch is a big fat triangular shawl that could give you a much needed hug when times are a bit difficult

some of you may know the term “Mutsch”?

Mutsch is sometimes used as a nick name for a mom here and I couldn’t think of a better name for this shawl

Mutsch is a generously sized triangular shawl, worked back and forth from the top down.

Working with unspun yarn is an experience in itself. We need to calm down and relax and take care not to work with a tight tension (the yarn breaks easily).
Working with 2 strands makes things a bit easier (which could be the reason for Manchelopis being wound into a double stranded plate) and results in a lightweight, big, and super cool shawl that will keep you warm on any occasion without being too heavy on your shoulders.

Starting with a garter tab cast-on, stitches are increased every RS row at both edges and at the center of the shawl. Pattern includes charts and written instructions (line by line) for the lace pattern. The easy to memorize lace pattern gradually shifts into garter stitch and adds just the right amount of interest to make knitting this shawl a relaxing but fun experience. Please note: The different sections of the lace pattern have the same “design”. They differ in some of the wrong side rows, so they are divided into individual sections.

Yarn
Wooldreamers Manchelopis 252 yds (230m) /100g; 3 plates; shown in color Gris medio.
Or approximately 756 yds (690 m).

This yarn is unspun and comes in double stranded plates. It is much lighter in weight and very lofty in relation to other yarns with a comparable yardage. You might want to get yourself an additional plate for swatching and trying out the yarn.

For this shawl 1 double stranded plate is used at a time.

Needles
US 10 (6 mm) circular needle, 40” (100 cm) long or size needed to get gauge.

Gauge
14 sts x 23 rows = 4”(10 cm) square in lace pattern after light blocking.

Gauge is not crucial for this project but will affect yardage and final size when different.
