Crocheted mushroom candles add such a cozy, foresty, cottage core vibe to your space. I designed them in Spring 2024 for Game of Shrooms, a global mushroom-themed art hunt, and I still can’t believe how quickly they were found and scooped up.

My pattern includes 2 sizes of mushrooms and fits a very specific set of battery-powered candles which I link in the Materials. Feel free to play around with yarn colors, yarn textures, and the way you add the spots on the mushroom caps (or whether you add spots at all).

While these would absolutely look wonderful in your holiday decor, I enjoy them on display all year.

The mushroom cozies are worked in the round and seamed together, and it’s a pattern for an adventurous beginner. You can crochet with any worsted weight yarn from your stash. I used a combination of Big Twist Value and discontinued Lion Brand Vanna’s Choice plus an H/5.0mm crochet hook.

Most of the mushroom is crocheted in single crochet. If you want the gilled texture underneath the cap, you should know how to front post double crochet as well as front post treble crochet. If you don’t know these two stitches, I also provide a simpler, alternate version.
