Munjoy Hill mitts and mittens
Named for the hill that terminates at the tip of the peninsula of Portland, Maine, the mitten features a unique top shaping that mimics a hill mound. The simple fingerless version is an added bonus!
Finished measurements
7.5 (8)“ hand circumference
Mitt: 7 (7.5)” long
Mitten: 9.5 (10.5)“ long
Choose the size closest to your measurement around palm, above thumb. Go down in size if between measurements.
Yarn
One skein Tundra by The Fibre Company (60% alpaca, 30% merino, 10% silk; 120 yds/100 g) shown in Mink
Approximately 85 (95) yds for mitts; 100 (115) for mittens.
Hands differ greatly in length. If you plan to knit your mittens longer than the finished measurements, be prepared by having extra yarn.
Needles
US size 7 / 4.5 mm needles (or size needed to obtain gauge); either set of dpns, two 24” circulars, or one 32” or longer circular, depending on your preferred method for working in the round.
Note: This designer is a loose knitter. If you are a tight knitter, you will need to go up in needle size to achieve gauge.
