The MUNGO SHAWL is a very easy and addictiv knit – there is not a single purl stitch ! It starts with an i-cord and only sixteen stitches – at the widest parts it´s 86 stitches only – so it grows fast. It has three strategically placed angles so it won´t fall off your shoulders. The angles are made using short rows with “wraps & turns” – but don´t worry – it´s pretty easy because it is garter stitch only – no need to find the wraps and knit them together with the main stitches, they disappear in the garter stitch fabric.
The original sample was knit with a very special yarn – MUNGO by Retrosaria – hence the name of the shawl. Mungo is a recycled wool and cotton yarn. But it is possible to use any yarn – why not try a self striping yarn combined with a solid one – or even two selfstriping yarns ? Merino striped with a thin thread of mohair ? Even a single colour version would look nice …
You will need three skeins of Mungo in each colour or appr. 660 m of each colour.

Der MUNGO SHAWL ist sehr einfach und schnell zu stricken – es gibt keine einzige linke Masche ! Man beginnt mit einem i-Cord und nur 16 Maschen – die höchste Maschenzahl ist 86 – auf diese Weise wächst er rasch. Drei genau platzierte Winkel sorgen dafür, dass das Tuch nicht von den Schultern rutschen kann. Die Winkel entstehen durch verkürzte Reihen und “wraps & turns”, umwickelte Maschen – aber keine Angst – im kraus rechts Muster ist das recht einfach, da man die Umschläge nicht mit den dazugehörigen Maschen zusammenstricken muss – sie verschwinden im Muster.
Das Original wurde aus einem besonderen Garn gestrickt – MUNGO von Retrosaria – daher der Name des Tuches. Mungo ist eine Mischung aus recycelter Wolle und Baumwolle. Das Tuch kann aber aus jedem Garn gestrickt werden – zum Beispiel aus einem Farbverlaufsgarn gemeinsam mit einem einfarbigen oder gar zwei verschiedenen Farbverlaufsgarnen ? Merino gestreift mit dünnem Mohair ? Sogar eine einfarbige Variante würde sehr schön aussehen …
Man benötigt je drei Knäule oder ca. 660 Meter pro Farbe.
