The airy, curving motifs of this lighthearted hap shawl in two sizes (petite/tall) bring to mind the undulating Scottish heather moors, parts of which are burned in fall and winter to stimulate regrowth. Worked from neck to hem in simple stitches and color sequences on larger needles, this piece tells the tale of both the flowering season and its opposite when worked in natural shades of Shetland wool. Arrange the colors as shown or devise an alternate scheme; the design lends itself to variation and is easily resized to suit one’s yarn supply.

Substituting yarn and/or needles may result in an overall variation in size and drape.

The modeled sample is shown in Elemental Affects Natural Shetland Fingering,

And the tweedy sample is shown here in Stone Soup Fingering in the shades Marble, Pumice, Slate and River Rock
