As the stitch patterns used in this design revealed themselves to me, I saw this was a sweater that hinted at and honored nature. Thus, the name of this sweater design honors John Muir, a most significant naturalist, preservationist, founder of the Sierra Club and father of our National Parks.

There are twisted stitch leaves that are diamond shaped and combined with cables that are winding curves meandering across a field of reverse stockinette stitches, as if they were climbing vines. The Wavy Cable achieves its interesting effect with the same half of the cable stitches always crossing on top.

The garment pieces are worked flat from bottom up and seamed after blocking. Sleeves are set in. There are 2 1/2” side slits at lower edge ribbing. Reverse stockinette neck edging is picked up and worked circularly. Neck edges from stitch pick up and bind off are whipstitched together to close. Charts and line by line instructions are included for pattern stitches.
