This shawl pattern is designed using two unusual stitches: a Japanese focal cable, (a Japanese cable stitch that we’re not used to seeing in our older knitting books), and a Japanese border cable.

There are also patch pockets, with a garter stitch at the top of pocket, using the smaller needle for stability and to keep the pocket top from “sagging”.

The shawl is made using light worsted weight yarn making the entire shawl warm. The patch pockets ensure that your shawl stays on your shoulders.

If you enjoy cabling and want to stay warm, you’ll enjoy making this shawl.

Skill Level: Intermediate (assuming a good working knowledge of cable knitting).

Both stitches are charted ONLY, but there is a schematic on how to place the pockets, which are attached last.

This pattern was expertly test knitted Beverly Long who can be reached at: blong39@hotmail.com. The yarn used in the sample is Malabrio’s Rios yarn, in colorway, Cosmos.
