Mount Juliet Shawl
Amid the velvety green fields of County Kilkenny in Ireland sits a glorious old manor house called Mount Juliet.
In the late 18th century, the Earl of Carrick married Lady Juliet Boyle, and together they decided to build their dream home on the banks of the river Nore.
The Earl’s young bride brought with her a generous fortune and an exquisite eye for beauty, and she eagerly devoted both to the project. Built with her money and named in her honour, Mount Juliet stands as a tribute to young love and a masterclass in elegance and harmony.
The Mount Juliet Shawl is inspired by the romantic history and lovely Georgian architecture of its namesake. This asymmetrical triangle shawl is a relaxing, engaging knit, featuring bands of simple but lovely lace in two colours, to recall the graceful lines and beautiful windows of the great house.
Mount Juliet was originally designed for the Knitting Pipeline Ireland Retreat, and is dedicated to the vision and courage of women who make things happen, particularly our beloved Paula Emons-Fuessle, who planned this wonderful gathering for all of us back in 2019.
Paula was the host of the Knitting Pipeline Podcast. She passed away in 2021 after a very brave fight with ovarian cancer. We remember her as a wonderful friend and inspiration to so many knitters, and we miss her very much.
