Mosaicoscope is a mosaic shawl worked “on the bias” creating the illusion of reflected shapes inside a kaleidoscope. Mosaic Colorwork is the easiest way to achieve stunning results just slipping a stitch here and there and managing only one color at a time. Here this technique plays with increases and decreases strategically placed to create peaks and valleys and to trick the eye with diagonal lines that actually don’t exist.

Construction
This shawl is a 12-pointed star shawl worked partially in 6 (7, 8) wedges/chevrons shaped by increases and decreases in a way that makes the mosaic look like it’s worked on the bias.
Each chevron has a double increase in the center and a decrease on each side with the exception of one row every 6, so that each wedge gently increases in size during the work.
Sizes: This shawl has 3 sizes for width (6, 7 or 8 chevrons) and 2 sizes for height (S/L).

Yarn
MC: Miss Babs Estrellita (92% superwash Merino wool, 8% Lurex; 400 yards 365 m/115 g), col. Sunrise Swim, approx 320 (365) m/350 (400) yds for 6-chevron width, approx 373 (425) m/408 (467) yds for 7-chevron width, 426 (485) m/486 (530) yds for 8-chevron width.
CC: Miss Babs Avon (85% 19.5 micron Merino wool, 15% silk; 490 yards 448 m/100 gr), col. McHale’s, approx 365(400) m/400 (437.5) yds for 6-chevron width, approx 425(467) m/467 (511) yds for 7-chevron width, 485 (533) m/530 (583) yds for 8-chevron width.
Note: Choose two yarn colors with a good
contrast between them. For the best result pick a solid or tonal CC and a more variegated or speckled MC.

Needles
One 80 cm / 32” circular needle (or straight needles if preferred) in size needed to obtain gauge.
Suggested needle size: 3.25 mm /US 3.

Notions
7 markers.
Tapestry needle to weave in ends.

Gauge
25 stitches and 52 rows = 10x10 cm (4”) in mosaic stitch (see page 8), measured after blocking.
Note: Gauge is not critical for this project, but may affect yardage and finished measurements.
