Mosaic Purses
These purses are so much fun to make! You can make them in any size you want and you can also use this same pattern to make pillow covers. The best part is that you start with the zipper! So once you´re done crocheting, weave in a few ends and you´re done, zipper is already sewn in!
You can use this pattern to make any size of purse, from small purses, to hand bags and Ipad covers! The width of it is decided by the length of the zipper you use, and the length of it is up to you, you just crochet as many rows as you want your purse to be long. You can also use this same pattern to make pillow covers! Then just use a zipper that fits your pillow´s width and follow the pattern until you have the right length, et voilá!
The first round of the purse is sewn straight into the zipper, using embroidery chain stitch which is explained in detail in the pattern, both with written and illustrated instructions. The purse is then crocheted in the round and closed at the bottom with single crochet stitches.
The purses are worked with mosaic technique, which is explained in detail in the pattern, both written and illustrated instructions. Once the mosaic pattern starts, you work one round in color A (main color) and then one round in color B (pattern color), alternating with each round. Each round is worked with only one color at a time, and no need to cut if using only 2 colors. I recommend using contrasting colors. You can also work the purses with multiple colors.
The suggested yarn is Catona by Scheepjes. I love working with this yarn and can recommend it, also it seems to come in every possible color and shade! You can also just use any type of yarn you like or have at hand, as long as it fits for a 3 mm hook. You will need at least two colors and with 2 skeins you can make 2 small purses, if you alternate the main color and the pattern color. I love making my multicolor purses with scraps, and for the smaller ones I can use up the tiniest pieces of scraps, since each color just needs to be used once!
You will also need a zipper and a sharp point sewing needle for this project.
This pattern includes two mosaic patterns, but you can easily use any mosiaic pattern you want for your purses. Just follow the three foundation rounds of this pattern and then work any mosaic pattern you like.
