Contrasting lace panels transform a simple cardigan into a chic fashion statement. The base cardigan is worked flat in pieces that are seamed together. The lace panels are worked separately, then sewn in place along the front neck and openings. Coordinating buttons bring it all together.
Finished Size About 34½ (38¾, 43, 47¼, 51, 55¾)“ (87.5 98.5, 109, 120, 129.5, 141.5 cm) bust circumference, including 1” (2.5 cm) front band. Designed to be worn with 2½” (6.5 cm) to 3” (7.5 cm) of positive ease. Cardigan shown measures 34½“ (87.5 cm).
Yarn Madelinetosh Tosh DK (100% superwash merino wool; 225 yd 206 m/100 g): Smokestack (MC, gray), 5 (6, 6, 7, 8, 8) skeins; Madelinetosh Tosh Sock (100% super wash merino wool; 395 yd 361 m/120 g): Stovepipe (CC, dark blue), 1 skein for all sizes. DK weight (#3 Light) and fingering weight (#1 Super Fine).
Needles Body and sleeves: size U.S. 6 (4 mm) 24” to 40” (60 to 100 cm) circular (cir) depending on garment size. Ribbing: size U.S. 4 (3.5 mm) 24” to 40” (60 to 100 cm) cir depending on garment size. Lace appliqués: size U.S. 1 (2.25 mm) straight. Adjust needle size if necessary to obtain the correct gauge.
Notions Stitch holder; tapestry needle; removable markers; seven ¾“ (2 cm) buttons; sharp-point sewing needle; sewing thread to match CC.
Gauge 22 sts and 28 rows = 4” (10 cm) in St st with MC on largest needle; 24 sts at widest point of Chart A or C measure 3½“ (9 cm) wide with CC on smallest needles, blocked; 40 rows (four 10-row reps) of Chart A or C measure 6” (15 cm) high with CC on smallest needles, blocked.
