Modern Mocs
Cozy up in these classy, re-imagined moccasins! These slippers boast a stylish cuff (fold down for a relaxed look), seamless construction, and an extra comfy double-knit sole.
A simple, crocheted border (around the sole) adds style and structure. Full instructions for working the crocheted border are included in pattern. (No prior crochet experience needed!)
NOTE: This pattern uses the double knit stitch (as opposed to double knitting). It’s not difficult and creates a great, thick and squishy sole!
Techniques used: German Short Rows (full instructions included in pattern), working in the round, picking up sts, crochet chained border (full instructions included in pattern).
Sizes:
S (M, L, XL, XXL) to fit US shoe size:
W’s 5-6 (W’s 7-8, W’s 9-10, W’s 11/M’s 9-10.5, M’s 11-12.5)
Fits Foot Length:
8.75” (9.5”, 10”, 10.75”, 11.5”) / 22 (24, 25, 27, 29) cm
Yarn:
Knit Picks Simply Wool Bulky:
C1 (Wendy): 160 (175, 185, 193, 205) yds / 146 (160, 170, 176, 187) m
C2 (Wilhelmina): 95 (100, 110, 120, 130) yds / 87 (91, 100, 110, 119) m
Note: If substituting yarn, please note that this yarn is thinner than a traditional bulky yarn. It knits up more like a thick Aran weight yarn. I recommend against using any yarn thinner than Aran weight as you want a dense fabric.
Needles:
US 6 (4 mm) straight (optional); US 6 (4 mm) circular (47” / 120 cm); US 6 (4 mm) DPN’s (2); Crochet hook (size H)
(NOTE: The Magic Loop Method is recommended for this pattern.)
Adjust needle size if necessary to obtain the correct gauge. Gauge is extremely important as stitch and row counts are exact throughout the pattern.
Gauge:
Stockinette St: 5 sts and 6 rows = 1 inch
Double Knit Sole & Front/Back Flaps: Approximately 8 sts (4 sts as seen on the RS) and 10 rows (5 rows as seen on the RS) = 1 inch
Crochet Chained Border: 4 crocheted sts = 1 inch
Notions:
Stitch markers; stitch holders, tapestry needle; fabric paint for soles (optional)
