Mirkwood Shawl
This semi-circular shawl is knit from the center back neck down to the bottom hem. It begins with large leaf motifs, incorporating increases as the leaves “grow”. The second panel features fern-like motifs, and the third panel ivy leaves. The second and third panels are shaped with the use of a yarn-over increase row. The shawl is finished with a knit-on border with ivy vine motifs and a sawtooth edge. All lace motifs are presented in chart form ONLY.
You will need approximately 725 to 750 yards of a fingering-weight yarn to knit this shawl as written. The sample was knit in Wooly Wonka Fibers Nimue Sock in the “Minerva” colorway. Kits for this project are available from Wall of Yarn.
The entrance to the forest path was like a sort of arch leading into a gloomy tunnel made by two great trees that leant together, too old and strangled with ivy to bear more than a few blackened leaves. The path itself was narrow and wound in and out among the trunks. – The Hobbit, JRR Tolkien.
