This is the pattern to make mini chicken and chick.

You only need very small amounts of DK (8-ply) yarn and toy stuffing. All parts are knitted flat and sewn up at the end. You do not need to knit in circles.
DPNs are to make i-cords which is explained in the pattern, however, there is an alternative.
