Mighty Oak Hat
What a mighty little hat! Though it’s great for everyday wear, you won’t find a warmer hat that can look this dressed up. It’s unapologetically mod, but will fit seamlessly into your winter wardrobe. Knits up in an afternoon for an ultra fast gift idea! Worked from the bottom-up in a fun, simple textured stitch pattern. Some of the cast-on stitches are later picked up to knit the brim downward, with spaces left to weave a decorative ribbon through and tie in a bow. Matching Mighty Oak Cowl also available.
Yarn: Shown in Brown Sheep Burly Spun (132 yds/121 m, 226 g./7.97 oz.) in color “Wild Oak”. Any super bulky wool yarn will work great. Aprox. 60-64 yds/55-59 m (small/medium child), 95-100 yds/ 87-92 m (teen/small adult), 120-130yds/ 110-119 m for (medium/large adult).
Gauge: 2.5 sts/in and 10sts/ 4in (10sts/10cm) in pattern stitch, unblocked.
Needles: Size needed to get gauge. I used US size 10 ½ (6.5mm) 16-in circular needle and DPN’s.
Sizes: 6 sizes. Small Child (16in/41cm), Medium Child (16in/41cm but taller), Teen (19.5in/49.5cm), Small Adult (19.5in/49.5cm, but taller), Medium Adult (22.5in/57cm), Large Adult (22.5in/57cm, but taller).
Notions: Optional. A ribbon to weave through your brim for a bow. Mine is 58in/147cm long.
Skills: Cast on, cast off, knit in the round, use double-pointed needles, knit, purl, knit through back loop, K2tog decrease, picking up sts from cast-on edge. The textured stitch pattern uses a special P2tog stitch with extra purling, it is explained within the pattern.
Accessibility Notes: 12 point san serif font with 14 point bolded headings, no columns (except for abbreviation key), all charted sections also written.
