“These gloves, with their iconic black and white Sanquhar patterning, were first published over 130 years ago, and I have developed the pattern for today’s language and knitting styles for you to enjoy,” says Ruth Robinson.
“The town of Sanquhar in Dumfriesshire is famed for its traditional colourwork knitting style, and gloves, mitts and hose (stockings, socks) were knitted using two highly contrasting colours and the use of both hands to ‘throw’ the yarn over the needles.”
