Inspired by the bold geometry and playful textures of midcentury modern upholstery, this shawl brings retro charm into a modern wardrobe essential.

Worked from one narrow end with increases every other row, it grows at a gentle pace—creating a long, tapered triangle that’s wonderfully wearable and never overwhelming. Drape it with the point in front to warm your chest, wear it traditionally over your back, or fold it in half and slip the ends through for the look of a sleek rectangular scarf. One shape, endless possibilities.

The sample combines two strands of Cardiff Cashmere Prime with a single strand of Lana Grossa Alta Moda Cashmere for a feather-light, sumptuously soft fabric. The striking midcentury patterning is created using simple slip-stitch colorwork, shown clearly in detailed charts, with the first 10 rows written out to help you get started.

A little retro, a little modern, and entirely luxurious—this shawl is a joy to knit and even more fun to style.
