Methera is an old word that means four in the old sheep-counting system in North England. It is also the name of the 4-ply yarn produced by the Lancaster yarn shop, Northern Yarn.

The yarn is a gorgeous blend of four sheep breeds local to Lancashire, and I wanted to pay homage to the landscape that produced the yarn.

Lancaster lies by the River Lune and I’ve named the shawl Methera Lune. Lune also means “warming up” or “warm sense of humour” in Danish, as well as “moon-shaped” in Latin. I love how words can mean so much in different languages, and how well Lune fits the shawl.

Methera Lune is a triangular shawl with slipped stitches, a simple and lovely horseshoe pattern, and optional little knots. The pattern is both charted and written, and comes in three sizing options. It is worked top-down using a garter stitch tab cast on. Fully tech-edited.

It is a cosy, wearable, and utterly delicious knit which has a rhythm to it - just like the ancient counting system.
