messing about in boats
5 for 4 – if you buy any 5 Åsa Tricosa patterns at the same time you get the least expensive one for free.
This is a slightly boxy comfortable pullover to live in or mess about in.
The placement of the pockets magically creates a waist line even as the sweater is knitted straight.
Messing about in Boats1 is knitted like all Ziggurats, that is, in one piece, top-down, shoulders and sleeve caps knitted in one sweep, and then all in the round including the built-in pockets to just before the hem, where a bumforgiving slit requires a bit of back and forth knitting.
A simple rib collar is knitted on last. Not a seam in sight. Honest.
The first sample in the pattern photos was knitted in size 40 with a local plant-dyed yarn (by Wolllaus).
(I’m knitting a second sample right now with Marchmont DK by The Yarn Yard.)
Skeins (Vivacious DK) required: 5 (5, 5, 5, 6) 6, 6, 6, 7, 7
Approximate yardage:
950 (1000, 1100, 1150, 1200) 1300, 1350, 1400, 1450, 1500 m
1050 (1100, 1200, 1250, 1350) 1400, 1450, 1550, 1600, 1650 yds
(I love my test knitters – even when I don’t thank them publicly every time. They are the bee’s knees.)

Annabel came up with this perfect name for her test-knit. She spends a lot of time messing about in boats. Also, one must agree with Ratty. ↩
