Merry Christmitts
This pattern contains written instructions for creating your mitten ornament, with colourwork charts featuring five different designs. There is also a template to design your own.
This is a great way to practise colourwork mitten-making techniques, while also creating adorable Christmas ornaments. They are constructed like adult mittens, complete with a real working thumb—perhaps that’s overkill, but I like to think the Christmas elves might borrow a pair or two when they get cold. Great way to use up some extra yarn scraps, too!
Materials:
Fingering weight yarn in two contrasting colours
Scrap piece of yarn for thumb
DPNs in US1/2.25mm or preferred size
Darning or yarn needle
Finished size: 3 ¼” x 1 ½” / 8.25 x 4 cm (excluding thumb).
Gauge: 11 sts and 11 rows = 1 inch / 2.5 cm
For larger mittens, use thicker yarn and bigger DPNs.
