Mermaids' Playtime
The pattern is a simple ripple stitch four row repeat which is very easy to memorise. If you want, you can knit a shorter leg if you would prefer to knit a trainer sock rather. The lace gives the sock plenty of stretch, so it fits well. There are two sizes to choose from, depending on your foot width.
I designed these socks for my friend Julia. She loves mermaids and I think she must have been one in a previous life as she swims effortlessly, gliding through the water. I imagined her playing in the gently rippling waves with her mermaid friends while I was knitting them on the beach, and that’s how they got their name.
Please contact me on Ravelry if you find a mistake or if you have any queries.
I’m offering this pattern for free, but if you would like to make a small donation, I have a Just Giving page where I am raising funds for Myositis UK. Hopefully research will provide a cure or better treatment for this muscle disease which has totally changed my life.
Thank you.
I really hope you enjoy knitting these socks!
