CONSTRUCTION OF THE DESIGN
The cardigan is worked top down flat. You begin by working from the back neck, using 9-stitch cables on the raglan seams and 2 x 1 rib, while shaping the yoke with increases. After the increases, you continue working towards the underarm, incorporating raglan increases to shape the front and back pieces and both sleeves.
Next, the yoke stitches are divided into sleeves and body with additional cast on stitches at the underarm. The live sleeve stitches are placed on hold. Once the body and sleeves are separated, you continue working the body flat continuing the 9-stitch cable and 2x1 rib texture. After completing the main body, you finish with twisted ribbing for the hem.
The live sleeve stitches are worked with additional cast on stitches picked up from the underarm and worked in the round with 2 x 1 rib texture and decreases. The cuffs are worked in twisted ribbing. The neckline is worked in twisted rib by picking up stitches from the neckline and folded double. Lastly, the button bands are worked in ribbing on the front panels.
