This pattern will enable you to create a medieval princess style hat with chiffon train and a pair of matching leg warmers.

Super cute as a newborn photo prop (with sizes toddler, child and adult included for fancy dress use).

Or, if medieval princesses aren’t to your taste, why not try the set in black with purple, orange or green Halloween-style trims!

FOR THE HAT, YOU WILL NEED up to 300 m of Aran or WW yarn in any colour you like, an appropriate hook, a stitch marker, some lightweight card*, 1m of elastic or ribbon for ties, 1-3 m of ribbon for trimming, a square of chiffon (or similar floaty fabric) and a needle for neatening ends.

*The card is used to add stiffness to the hat. For photo shoots with a new baby, you may prefer to partially fill with soft stuffing for a more flexible moulding shape or leave out altogether

The chiffon should measure between 20 x 20 cm and 50 x 50 cm square (between 8 x 8“and 20 x 20” square). Other trims may be added as desired.

FOR THE LEGWARMERS, YOU WILL NEED up to 400m of Aran or WW yarn in any colour you like, an appropriate hook, 1-3 m of ribbon for decorating (optional) and a needle for neatening ends.

GAUGE: 4sts and 3 rows to 2.5 cm (1”) in UK htr.
