Meandering Stripes Socks
Meandering Stripes was designed to address a problem that I had with the changing size of striped over a gusset. I think these socks solve the problem nicely. The slight change in the width of the stripes is almost unnoticable yet you will still have the comfort of a gusset.
Yes, you read that right, the heels for these socks are a Gusseted Short Row Heel. Gussets are used to increase the room in the instep area AND the gusset is adjustable so you are not locked into only 1 fit. You can even leave the gusset out if you have great fit with SRHs.
The method presented for the short row portion of the heel is based on Kaity Fraker’s No Wrap Short Row heel technique, in my own words. There are also extensive images to help you along the way. (File size is about 1.2Mbs for quick downloads.)
Legs shaping allows for any size to be made, and any length, including knee socks. No more struggling with socks that cut into your calves.
Oh… I forgot, this pattern is available Toe Up and/or Top Down in both fully charted and written instructions as well as a charts only file that includes construction information but no stitch by stitch breakdowns for the charts.
Color coded charts, hot links in the file and easy to read section titles make the pattern easy to follow.
