Mayleen is a large deciduous climber with single ruffled flowers blooming from late spring to early summer. Their delightful fragrance fills the air and is the perfect Clematis to plant near an entrance or path!

This is a pattern for a hat worked from the bottom up and a pair of lined mittens worked from the bottom up from a provisional cast-on. They are worked in the round using the stranded colourwork technique.

Hat
Stitches are cast-on and then rib is worked before working the chart. After chart is complete, yarn is pulled through remaining sts, before blocking.

yarn:
Shetland 4ply by Gathered Sheep Yarns; Fingering; 100% Pure Shetland Wool; 234yds (213.97m) / 55g
approximate yarn amounts:
MC (Vampires Blood) - 32g; 137yds/125m
CC (Stone) - 16g; 68yds/214m
CC2 (Dreamy) - 4g; 15yds/15m
needles:
2.75mm (us no 2) circular, 16in/41cm
3.0mm (us no 2.5) circular, 16in/41cm
and DPNs 6in/15cm for crown shaping
gauge: 28 sts x 31 rows = 4in/10cm
measured over stranded stockinette on larger needles
Some knitters work stranded and single-coloured at different gauges. Change needles, as needed, to keep gauge the same throughout.
approximate finished size:
one size fits most; 21-25 in/53cm-63.5 cm head
additional tools:
needle to weave in ends, st marker

Mitten
Stitches are provisionally cast on and the outer mitten is worked. Then sts are pick up from the provisional cast-on and the lining is worked with a needle size 1 size smaller than the outer mitten.
There is 1 chart for all sizes, which is determined by needle size. Both mittens are worked the same.

If you would like to work your mitten unlined, the pattern contains a knitted rib instruction.
