May Bells Shawl
For all of the garter stitch fans out there, here is a crescent shaped garden shawl with a lovely lace edge. The body is knit from the top center down, and the edging is knit from the center out to each edge. You have a choice of using beads or knitting small nupps (like a baby bobble) to adorn your edging. The lace edging has both charts and written instructions.
This shawl comes in two sizes. Finished sizes are approximately 50” x 14” (small) and 62” x 16” (large). The small shawl requires approximately 450 yards of fingering weight yarn, and the large shawl requires approximately 750 yards.
The body and edging of the shawl are close to a 50/50 split for yardage. However, if you want to be safe, allow 45% for the body and 55% for the edge. Once you begin the edging, there is no easy way to make this shawl smaller, so please make sure you have adequate yardage to complete the project.
Beading option will also require a 1 mm crochet hook and approximately 360 (480) 6/0 seed beads.
