Matthildur is a lovely, simple little collar pattern that I’ve been making for years now and is my go to baby shower gift.

Such a cute little gift that you can work very quickly, so it’s ideal to make a set of three, using all the versions of it in different colors, and the set then makes for a beautiful gift.

When my niece, Matthildur, was born, I made a bunch of them for her and finally wrote up the pattern. As you can see in the pics here, she’s still using them almost 4 years later (I’ve just added a few chains and a new loop at the back!) and keeps asking me for more! I love how the collars have just grown with her and that they get so much use and with the holiday season coming, I decided to finally publish this little cutie.

Gauge
Approximately 23 ST = 10 cm

Hook and yarn
3 mm hook

You can use any yarn that suits a 3 mm hook, I like to use machine washable cotton, but really you can just use which ever yarn you like. It‘s ideal to use scraps for this project, since with 1 x 50 g skein you get approximately 4 collars.

Sizes
The collar comes in 3 sizes:
0-6 months (1-2 yrs) 2-4 yrs.

The top of the collar for each size is approximately: 30 cm (32 cm) 34 cm long.

It‘s very easy to change the sizes if you‘re using different type of yarn or have a different gauge. Then you can work your foundation chains until you get your desired length and just take care that your total stitch count is a repeat of 4 ST plus 1 extra ST.

Abbreviations (US terms)
ST = stitch
CH = chain stitch
SS = slip stitch
SC = single crochet
DC = double crochet
DC cluster = double crochet cluster, a cluster of 2 or more DC‘s that are all worked into the same ST or CH SP.
DC SP = double crochet space, the space between two DC‘s that stand side by side.
CH SP = chain space

Different versions
You can make three different versions of the collar by working the last row according to patterns A, B and C.
