Matchbox Monsters
This pattern is for 2 small no-sew matchbox monsters! The pattern also includes printable templates to enable you to make the matchboxes and name cards, making it an ideal gift, stocking filler or craft fair item.
This project is no-sew – the monsters are made in one piece adding the arms, mouth and legs as you work. If you choose to make the monsters without the box, this design also works well in thicker chenille yarns.
The pattern is written in English using American crochet terms and contains loads of photos to help you every step of the way.
You will need:
Yarn of your choice. I used dk weight yarn (equivalent to light worsted, weight 3) and my finished monsters measure approximately 8cm tall (monster 1) and 10.5cm tall (monster 2 including the hair). Using a thicker yarn than this may result in your monsters not fitting inside the accompanying box.
You will need the following colours:
Monster 1 (pages 4 - 6)
- Eye background colour - I used white (approx. 1.5m).
- Main colour - I used blue (approx. 14.5m).
Monster 2 (pages 7 - 8)
- Teeth colour - I used white (approx. 1m).
- Mouth colour - I used black (approx. 1.25m).
- Main colour - I used light pink (approx. 12.25m).
- Hair colour - I used dark pink (approx. 0.5m).
Please Note - The amount of yarn used will vary according to yarn weight, hook size and stitch tension so these measurements are only a rough guide. The pattern refers to the colours that I used, however these can be substituted for colours of your choice.
You will also need:
- A suitable size hook for the yarn you have chosen - I used a 4mm hook.
- 6mm black safety eyes x3.
- A small amount of toy stuffing.
- Other tools you will need are a needle, some scissors and some stitch markers.
- To make the matchboxes and name cards, you will need access to a printer and to print the relevant pages out onto thick white paper or thin white card.
You are welcome to sell the items that you make using this pattern, but please do not sell / share the pattern itself. Thank you.
