Masquerade Cowl

Beginner Skill Level.

Written Pattern.

US and Metric equivalents

Single Hank Project.

Sly and fun to knit.
Tricks with stitches make beautifully unique upraised and elongated columns and cable look twists.

Complex at first glance techniques that are really quite simple and fun to create.

Jump in and try something new.. With only a 6 stitch/four row repeat it’s easy to memorize and keep track of.

A great skill builder for beginners or addition to the repertoire of more advanced knitters.

Stitches used
Knit, Purl, YO, K4tog, slip stitch, and right cross (k2tog dont drop k first again)

Materials

US 15 or 17 (10 - 12.75 mm) circular needles 20 ” (50 cm) long

90 yards (82 m) of Jumbo yarn @ 2 - 3 WPI
~ Sample used Malabrigo Rasta in Zarzamora.
Yardage is tight - work closely to gauge or buy a second hank.

Stitch Marker

Row Counter (optional - there are only 4 so it’s pretty easy to keep your place)

Darning needle to sew tails

Measurements

Sample = 9 by 25” (27 by 66 cm) around - as knit/no blocking

Gauge

Gauge not critical but will affect size and yardage.

Sample gauge was, one repeat (6 sts) in pattern = 3.25” (8.5 cm) relaxed/as knit.

If you are substituting yarn, keep in mind Rasta is extra super bulky (Jumbo) at 2 WPI giving
7.75 stitches and 11 rows = 4” /10 cm square
in unblocked stockinette

I highly recommend the Malabrigo Rasta - it is expensive but so worth it doest shred or pill like most single ply super bulkies and soft like no other.
