Martha's Mittens
Named for the Biblical Martha, these mittens are working mittens. The rib pattern allows the fabric to hug your hand even after a day’s work. Not too bulky, they’ll keep your fingers toasty while typing, working in the barn or driving to work. Their all-day warmth will ease the pain of arthritis and carpal tunnel syndrome. Put them to work for you.
Skill level: Intermediate.
Size: One size fits most adults and older
children. To make larger, cast on extra stitches in multiples of 2, working the thumb per the pattern. To make small child/larger child cast on 38 (44) stitches and work gusset through row 12. Skip to row 19 and continue. For a slightly smaller version, go down one needle size.
Gauge: 42 sts in 4”/10 cm (in the round in pattern).
Yarn: Sock weight yarn, 140 (165) yards (16 wpi).
Models knit in Crystal Palace Panda Cotton and Regia 4 Ply sock knitting yarns.
