Marled Magic Blanket
Knit the marled blanket of your dreams with this geometric modular pattern! The large rectangular shape is knitted one section at a time as you pick up stitches and attach your current section to the previously knitted sections. Always hold two strands of fingering weight yarn together to get the DK weight gauge. Instructions include marling recommendations for each section. Sometimes you can hold two colors together throughout an entire section and for other sections you can create fading marl effects by frequently changing colors throughout the section. This blanket is a big stash buster, using all kinds of fingering weight fibers together. Combine sock yarns with single ply merino yarns. Include some silk for shiny accents or add mohair and brushed suri alpaca for fluffy moments. The geometric shapes feature various stitches like garter stitch, mesh eyelets, seed stitch, and a couple brioche sections too. The generous dimensions of this blanket are ideal for a large bedspread or cuddles on the couch. Gather a big pile of yarns and knit marled memories that are sure to last a lifetime!
Sizes
One size
Check out my Jigsaw Puzzle Blanket for a similar style that is smaller. Jigsaw Puzzle Blanket is about half the size of this Marled Magic Blanket.
Finished Measurements
90.5” / 230cm long, 71” / 180cm wide.
Yarn
Fingering weight held double
Yardage
Approximately 11,200yds / 10,241m total
My blanket weighs approximately 2800g.
I recommend having more than the recommended total weight of yarns as you stashbust and marl color together, so you have a plethora of color options to choose from for each section.
Shown in
A variety of fingering weight yarns including West Wool Bicycle, Walk Collection Cottage Merino, Punk Rock Unicorn Soul, Mominoki Sock Fine 4ply, Life in the Long Grass Singles, & Qing Fibre Melted Baby Suri
Needles
Four pairs US 8 / 5mm circular in 40″ / 100cm length or size needed to obtain gauge
The I-cord border around the perimeter of the blanket will require a very long circular needle or all three circular needles to accommodate all of the border sts
Notions
Waste yarn, tapestry needle
Gauge
16 sts & 32 rows = 4″ / 10cm in garter stitch after blocking
A gauge of 17 or 18 sts = 4″ / 10cm will also produce a nice blanket fabric with slightly smaller finished dimensions.
