Marionberry syrup. If you pass through the pacific northwest and find yourself in a breakfast spot that has it, smother your pancakes in this rich purple gift and find your life changed. That feeling of breakfast bliss is what I wanted to capture in this cowl. Whether you are knitting it for yourself or a knitworthy loved one, I hope it brings you comfort and keeps you warm inside and out.

If you have a leftover skein and some scrap from a sweater, or a really special skein of rustic woolenspun yarn, this is the perfect cowl for it. Cozy up with your yarn cake and challenge yourself with these cables and bobbles!

MATERIALS

  • 210- 260 yds of DK or Sport yarn (yardage does not include swatch)
  • Size US 6 16” Circular Needles (If you are loose knitter, size down to US 5 needles)
  • Cable Needle or DPN to use for cabling
  • Crochet hook for bobbling (optional)
  • Darning Needle
  • Scissors
  • Stitch Marker

YARN RECOMMENDATIONS

Sample knit with Woolberry Fiber Co.
Berry Woolen - 100% Non-Superwash US Merino
(Tall cowl shown in “Rhubarb Pie”, Short cowl shown in “Falling Leaves”)

This cowl looks great in a textured woolenspun yarn with lots of loft and bounce. A smoother yarn (or a sport weight) will result in a more drapey fabric. This is an awesome pattern for a leftover skein and a scrap from a sweater.

You could also hold fingering weight double for this pattern to make it stash friendly.

SIZING / YARDAGE

This cowl is easily customizable to your yardage and your size preference.

If you have a heavy skein, or a skein and a little extra, you can knit the full three repeats for an extra tall and snuggly cowl. If you don’t like to play yarn chicken or prefer a shorter cowl, the two-repeat version is perfect for you.

If you are right on the edge and want to go for the three-repeat version, just weigh your skein when you are halfway through the second repeat. If you still have at least half your skein left, work that extra repeat!

Approximate dimensions and yardage used at gauge:
Tall (Three repeats): 9” tall X 13” wide laid flat and about 260 yds
Short (Two repeats): 7” tall X 13” wide laid flat and about 210 yds

I personally like to max out my yarn and like to use every single yard. Both samples were knit out of a single skein of Woolberry Fiber Co. “Berry Woolen” which is a DK. For the tall version is did cut it pretty close (I had about 2-3g left, and did rip out my gauge swatch).
