This is only the Marching Bears CHART. A comfortable understanding of weaving in floats as you go is absolutely necessary.

The PDF download includes two charts: a 110 sts by 32 row chart that includes all five bears and a 28 st by 13 row repeat chart with the bear heads.

The story:
My boyfriend has wanted a Grateful Dead winter cap for a very, very long time. We finally made a deal, if he’d chart it then I’d knit it. Although he does knit, he didn’t worry about avoiding long stretches of a single color. The majority of the float weaving is with the background color, which isn’t particularly difficult.

I have not added the hat pattern for this chart because it is slightly too tall for comfortable crown decreases when using a worsted yarn (and a lighter weight yarn would allow more time to decrease, but then the chart is probably not quite long enough…). But it can be done--I’ve faked it twice.
