I want to feel the delightful bounce of this yarn right against my skin, as it’s the Goldilocks level of woolliness: not the least bit scratchy, but far from slinky or superwashed. This is 100% wool, no doubt about it, and it shows in every stitch on this textured, cozy cowl. I’ve used a favorite stitch with a boring name, the Diagonal Crossed Stitch, which in this color reminds me a bit of brown sugar or maple sugar candies. This bandana-style cowl uses short rows to shape the point and accents said point with two jaunty tassels.

Finished Measurements
Circumference at top: 16.75” (42.5 cm)
Length at center front: 21” (53 cm) not including tassels

Yardage
515 yards (471 m) in a fingering weight yarn, including tassels.

If substituting, look for something round and bouncy that will show off every stitch, and don’t be afraid to dig through your stash and try something unexpected. Handspun with a nubbly texture or a slinky alpaca or silk blend will add different dimensions to this cowl’s versatile shape and stitches.

I have suggested a few alternative yarns in the book:
Pichinku Fibers Qanchis Skinny - Peru
Brooklyn Tweed Peerie - USA
Millpost Merino Superfine Merino 4 Ply - Australia
